How Big Is a 30 Yard Dumpster Big Volume, Same Weight Limit

A 30-yard dumpster holds 30 cubic yards, or 810 cubic feet. The Palm Beach County haulers that publish dimensions list it at roughly 22 to 23 feet long, 8 feet wide and 6 feet high, so it needs a clear, level strip of about 23 feet plus a straight path for the truck to back in.

The measurements

One West Palm Beach hauler lists its 30-yard box at about 23 by 8 by 6 feet. A Royal Palm Beach-area company gives 22 feet long, 8 feet wide and 6 feet high, and describes the capacity as roughly 170 to 190 large trash bags, or about nine pickup-truck loads. Those are outside dimensions; the steel walls and ribs take a little off the inside.

Six-foot walls are the defining feature. A person standing beside the box cannot easily toss debris over the side, so loading usually happens through the swinging rear door or from a ladder, and long items go in first through that door before the walls get in the way.

What a 30-yard is built for in Wellington

This is the size for volume, not weight. In Wellington it tends to show up on:

  • a whole-house clear-out of a large estate home, with furniture, rugs, cabinets and the contents of a three-car garage;
  • a barn or stable teardown, where fence boards, stall fronts, mats and shed panels are bulky but fairly light;
  • storm cleanup of broken screen enclosures, soaked carpet and wet drywall after a hurricane;
  • a full interior remodel touching several rooms at once.

It is the wrong size for a tile roof, a pool deck or a concrete slab. Those materials reach any weight allowance long before the box is a third full.

The weight allowance is the catch

Posted Palm Beach County prices for a 30-yard include about three to four tons. The lowest published 30-yard price in the area includes three tons and seven days; another company's range includes up to four tons over a five-day rental. Every ton past the allowance is billed after the load crosses the county scale.

That scale is run by the Solid Waste Authority, and its schedule effective October 1, 2026 charges $95 a ton for construction debris and large vegetation, the rate it says open-top roll-offs are generally charged. A mixed load pays the highest category in it, and any load arriving unsecured carries a $10 surcharge. A 30-yard box of storm-soaked drywall and carpet carries all the water those materials absorbed, and the scale weighs it, which is why a big box after a hurricane often costs more in overage than its headline price suggests.

Where a full one goes

Heavy contents also decide which gate the truck uses. The authority's transfer stations, including Royal Palm Beach on Weisman Way, cannot accept concrete, block, brick, tile, roofing material, construction lumber, trusses, pallets, chain-link fencing or dirt, and a load with more than a small amount of them is rejected. A 30-yard full of remodel or barn debris therefore rides out to the North County Landfill Complex on Jog Road, open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed Sundays. A box filled on a Saturday afternoon is unlikely to leave before Monday.

Palm fronds and branches are charged at the cheaper $35 vegetation rate only when no piece is over 6 feet long or 50 pounds and nothing else is mixed in. Cut limbs down, and keep yard waste out of a box of household debris.

Fitting it on a Wellington property

Measure from the garage door to the street edge before booking: the box alone needs 22 to 23 feet. The truck also needs a straight run to back in and clearance overhead, and tree canopy and service lines over a driveway often hang lower than they look. Gated communities may require notice before a truck of this size comes through, and some associations limit how long a container can sit in a driveway.

The village itself points residents with a large project to a roll-off from a hauler permitted to work in Wellington, since curbside service stops at 2 cubic yards of construction debris a week. On an equestrian property, keep this box for ordinary debris only: manure needs its own container on a lipped pad under Section 30-153 of the Land Development Code.

Is a 30-yard the right call?

When the job is big and light, yes. When the volume is uncertain, a 20-yard and a swap can work out better than one oversized box parked for weeks.
